The other side
of the bridge
(The wrong side
some would say)
Our first place
cramped and grimy
Two flights up
above the bodega
Humid and hot
kebob and curry
diesel and Marlboro
(And we thought
we had made it)

*This is my first real stab at poetry, and I owe it all to the analysis, encouragement and belief of Courtenay Bluebird. Thank you, mon amie.

  1. I think you might be allergic to crappy poems. This is wonderful!

Great imagery. And I love the parenthetical phrase at the end.

  5. I love this poem, mon ami! Thank you for the kind acknowledgment. I am so touched by your gesture that I am near speechless.

Wait. No, I’m not. When you finished that final revision last night, I knew immediately that I would need to post this everywhere tomorrow because your poem is exquisite. And folks need to read it. It was my pleasure to help in any way that you asked. I am so stoked for you, Brian!

      • Brian, I just snort-laughed and woke two sleeping dogs. Wait…. Gimme a sec. I’m nearly cry-laughing. You are wonderful!

  6. Nah, that can’t be your first stab at poetry, it’s way to good!

  7. First stab? I think it’s fantastic for any number of stabs! Well done! 🙂

  9. Can’t decide which I like more: the photo or the poem. But I don’t have to decide. Both lovely. More poems like this, please.

Thanks for following the blog, I hope you enjoy the rest of the work.

  11. Hi, I’m a friend of Nathan Badley. He was just mentioning that he kind of misses seeing you around his blog lately. I just don’t want him to get his feelings hurt too much. I think that people have been slacking off on visiting his blog because he doesn’t reply to comments very well. Anyway, would you please swing over there and say hi? http://badlandsbadley.wordpress.com/

I love how the bridge looks like it’s stabbing into the blushing sky. Beautiful
